Deering Estate at Cutler is a 444-acre Estate offering tours of endangered natural areas, historic and archaeological sites, guided canoe trips to Chicken Key, recreational facilities, and a breathtaking view of Biscayne Bay. The park contains the restored Richmond Cottage, portions of which date back to 1896, and the Mediterranean Revival winter home of Charles Deering, completed in 1922.
Located along the edge of Biscayne Bay, the Estate is an environmental, archeological and historical preserve. From canoe rides to butterfly hikes and guided tours in nature, the Deering Estate has activities for the whole family to enjoy. The Estate offers daily tours of the historic houses – the Stone House and Richmond Cottage, as well as tours of the lush natural areas where 50,000 year-old fossil bones have been found.
When you visit the Deering Estate at Cutler, you can join a number of guided tours. These tours explore the history, art, architecture, and gorgeous natural surroundings of the estate, including Chicken Key. Chicken Key is a seven-acre mangrove island and restored bird rookery one-mile offshore in Biscayne Bay. The island contains sand dunes and mangrove forests and is surrounded by sand bars, tidal flats, sea grass beds and rocky debris.
The Deering Estate at Cutler is also a cultural and educational facility that features classes and programs for children and adults, teacher training and research opportunities. Group discounts available. Open daily from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Last ticket sold at 4 p.m. Adults $7, children $5. General admission is $7 for adults and $5 children (ages 4-14) and includes tours of the Stone House, Richmond Cottage, and natural areas. Special EcoAdventure Tours and guided canoe trips to Chicken Key are available for an additional fee.
