A Smithsonian Institution Affiliate, HistoryMiami is the premier cultural institution committed to gathering, organizing, preserving and celebrating the history of South Florida and the Caribbean. They accomplish this through exhibitions, city tours, education, research, collections and publications.

HistoryMiami’s multiple divisions include the Archives & Research Center, the South Florida Folklife Center, the Museum, City Tours and the Education Center. The Museum of HistoryMiami gathers, interprets, and presents the history of Miami and the greater South Florida region as a cultural crossroads of the Americas. The Museum is accredited by the American Association of Museums (AAM).

Tropical Dreams explores South Florida history from prehistoric times to the present day. Topics explored include First Arrivals, International Rivalry, Southward Expansion, New People - New Technology, and Gateway of the Americas. Discover your story as you explore the fascinating past and dynamic present in over 10,000 years of history. The museum offers extraordinary exhibitions that interpret themes relevant to South Florida and the Caribbean, and engage in year-round cultural programs that celebrate our ever-changing community.

Visit the Archives & Research Center and browse through prints, antique maps, books and over a million historic photographs or explore the city and delve into the past with the City Tours program. City Tours offers walking, bike, boat, and coach tours with acclaimed historians and guides that are prepared to share their expertise on various topics related to Miami and South Florida history.
